What is an Upstander?
An Upstander chooses to take action when they see injustice, bullying, discrimination, or harm. Instead of doing nothing, and staying silent and passive as a bystander, the Upstander demonstrates MORAL COURAGE.
Much of our mission highlights the rare but powerful examples of humanity shown toward ones' fellow man within the context of Holocaust rescue. The goal: to apply these examples of model behavior to our daily lives as we encounter injustices, wherever and whenever we see them.

Survivor Gabriella Karin collaborated with Nevada Center for Humanity to create the Upstander Award. In partnership with Dr. Jeffrey Geihs of Nevada Association of School Administrators (NASA), NCH will select an individual or organization whose actions exemplify what it means to stand up for others in direct danger and be awarded this bronze sculpture and formally recognized as an Upstander.

Del Sol Academy of the Arts was the first recipient of the NCH Upstander Award for their ongoing dedication to teaching the lessons of the Holocaust and the values of our shared, common humanity. Congratulations to the administrators, faculty, and student body!

UNLV student Brooke Wingate received the Upstander coupled with a scholarship award for her courage and leadership in fighting antisemitism on campus and in the community.
"The Upstander Award and scholarship, awarded by the Nevada Center for Humanity, has allowed me to focus fully on advancing my education and professional growth. It has also reinforced the importance of staying connected to the Jewish community and actively standing against antisemitism in everyday life. Through this support, I have been able to continue my academic journey while developing valuable skills and experiences. I am grateful for the opportunity to use these experiences to make a meaningful contribution to my community." - Brooke
