
The Upstander Award

Holocaust survivor and artist Gabriella Karin collaborated with Nevada Center for Humanity to create a bronze sculpture to be awarded to a group or individual who exemplifies greatness in their actions, as her rescuer did during the Holocaust, Righteous Among the Nations honoree, Mr. Karol Blaner.

Be an Upstander!
An upstander is someone who takes action when they see injustice, bullying, discrimination, or harm, instead of staying silent or passive.

As Portuguese consul-general of Bordeaux, he defied direct orders of his superiors in order to save the lives of persecuted Jews by issuing visas and passports to refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied France.

Del Sol Academy of the Arts was the first recipient of the NCH Upstander Award for their ongoing dedication to teaching the lessons of the Holocaust and the values of our shared, common humanity. Congratulations to the administrators, faculty, and student body!


UNLV student Brooke Wingate received the Upstander coupled with a scholarship award for her leadership in fighting antisemitism on campus and in the community.
