Gabriella Karin

Survivor Gabriella Karin collaborated with NCH to design this bronze sculpture, awarded to a group or individual who exemplifies what it means to be an Upstander as opposed to a bystander. During the Holocaust, (primarily Christian) rescuers risked their lives to save that of one Jewish person or more. Her life and that of her immediate family was saved by an Upstander, rescuer and awardee of  Righteous Among the Nations honoree, Mr. Karol Blaner.

Holocaust survivor and artist Gabriella Karin collaborated with Nevada Center for Humanity to create a bronze sculpture to be awarded to a group or individual who exemplifies greatness in their actions.

Q&A with Gabriella

NCH sat down with Gabriella and asked her a few questions...

Q: Do you recall witnessing antisemitic acts as a young girl growing up in Brataislava, Czechoslovakia?

Q: Have you experienced antisemitism as an adult living in the United States?

Q: You mentioned you were unable to locate the man who kept you and 7 members of your family alive in complete hiding during the war. If you could speak to Mr. Blaner directly, what would you say to him?

Q: How important are the lessons of the past?

Q: What do we share in our common humanity? What is our common denominator?

Q: Do you have a message for Nevada Center for Humanity?

Our mission is to educate Nevadans through the lessons of the Holocaust, highlighting acts of courage and compassion amid atrocity. Through artifacts, virtual reality films, and exhibitions across the state, we share stories of those who stood up for their fellow man and inspire others to model their moral courage.
